Panta Rhei. Works for Accordion Duo and Orchestra

The album Panta Rhei. Works for Accordion Duo with Chamber Orchestra is a unique project on the music market, as it presents the results of a co-operation between an orchestra and an accordion duo performing as soloists. This unique instrumental juxtaposition revealed new sonic aspects related to the tone colours and textural possibilities. At the same time, it served as an inspiration and a perfect area for creative ideas of Anna Sowa and Bartosz Kowalski – composers whose works can be heard on the album. These are world premiere recordings of two double accordion concertos with chamber orchestra created in recent years on commission of the musicians forming the duoAccosphere, performers of the solo parts. The presented works are one of the first such achievements in the milieu of Polish composers; they are also a unique undertaking on the global scale. The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns, which opens the album, is a kind of prelude introducing the listener to the presented selection of instruments. The piano duo part was arranged and performed by the accordionists invited to the project, as a result of which one of the most recognisable pieces in the collections of classical music was recorded for the first time in such a unique sonic version. Panta rhei – everything flows, comes and goes. However, the beauty of music and universal truths remain eternal. Variability and diversity are certainly characteristic for the presented album, which can be considered a kind of musical time machine – it takes the listener on an extraordinary journey during which one can hear echoes of medieval melodies, well-known quotes from the greatest composers and innovative sounds out of contemporary music festivals.
